Being autistic

I am autistic which gives a unique perspective on life and my creative work. One aspect of this is an ability to focus intently for very long periods. When I am working on something – all other things fall by the wayside 🙂

I tend to focus on a particular aspect of my work for many months (or years) but do try new creative approaches. I might continue a theme that is important to me across many media and creative forms. A good example of this is my work around women and the notion that Freedom is fragile.

Photography

I am a photographer who works with digital cameras, vintage film cameras and plastic toy cameras. I am fairly experimental and have been working with layering of photos to create montages with additional depth and meaning. I am also currently bringing together my writing and photography to tell new digital stories so I’m revisiting my old writing and some very old photos.

When I was younger I did a lot of travel photography. I also do portrait, wedding and nature photography. In addition, I use my photography to raise awareness around autism. The images shared on this website are fairly eclectic. Hope you enjoy them.

Art & Crafts

I work with a range of materials to explore storytelling and language. My pieces reflect strong interests in cinematic representation and classic literature. Much of my work is multi-layered, in meaning and format.

I use a variety of media to produce prints, paintings, sculpture, textiles and jewellery. I love working with Japanese papers for prints, wax prints and multimedia work. I do encaustic work with my own mix of beeswax, damar resin and pigment. My embroidery focuses on crewel work and whitework techniques, and my rag rugs are part of my commitment to upcycling. I am a member of the Craftivist Collective.
